Holby City star Marc Elliott has teased some big twists ahead following Isaac Mayfield’s shock return last night (May 14).
Marc has reprised his role as abusive doctor Isaac for a brand new story with Dom Copeland, which is due to take centre stage in next week’s episode.
As Isaac has a tense reunion with Dom, it’ll quickly become clear that he actually has an ulterior motive for returning.
With Isaac’s dad desperately unwell, he will strike up a pact with Dom to ensure that Jon gets the best treatment possible.
As further truths start to come to light, Marc has promised that there will be many more twists and turns as the story continues to unravel.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “You do see – there’s a lot of twists and turns in this story. There’s a question mark over Isaac’s relationship with his father, and what exactly that has entailed.
“More stuff gets revealed as the story progresses. And as with all relationships, I think his relationship with his father is a complicated one. Dominic and Isaac’s relationship is also extremely complicated, and that’s what the writers and the story were trying to look at during my time back there.”
Discussing whether Isaac is regretful over his abusive treatment of Dom, Marc said: “Yes, deeply. I think he is very sorry for his behaviour, and how that has impacted on Dominic.
“He wants to make amends, but ultimately, I think it becomes clear that he is back to basically engineer his father’s recovery, and seemingly that’s all it is. He’s back to make sure that his dad is well again, and then he’s quite happy to leave Dom and go on his merry way.”
He added: “It’s really hard to explain, because you know that expression: a leopard never changes its spots? You see flashes of the old Isaac again, because there’s an inability to relinquish control entirely.
“You can see that there is a layer of manipulation going on, even though, on this particular occasion, the manipulation is in order to secure his dad’s wellbeing, because he wants Dominic and Holby to take care of his father in his sickness.
“So the pact that he forces Dom to make with him, it can be seen as a sort of manipulation. So is Isaac up to his old tricks, or is he there purely to make sure that his father gets better?
“I think we wanted the audience to sort of be questioning as Dom is questioning it.”
Holby City continues on Tuesday, May 22 at 8pm on BBC One.
