She is one of the most beautiful women to grace the movies.

And Penélope Cruz was a spectacle to behold at the premiere of her movie Pain & Glory with her handsome co-star Antonio Banderas, in Madrid on Wednesday.

The actress, 44, looked jaw-dropping in a fairytale gown embellished with a beaded bodice and pleated skirt as she joined smart Antonio at the Capitol Cinemas.

Twinkling beads were stitched into the bodice of her dress and winked in the spotlight when Penélope worked her magic on the red carpet.

In a swift hand movement, the Everybody Knows star took hold of the edge of her skirt and splayed the pleated fabric out like the delicacy of a hand fan.

Curls framed the Spanish beauty’s face, with only a handful of her locks pinned back in a half updo hairstyle, and she made up her flawless complexion with make-up.

A rectangular silver clutch bag held everything she needed for the evening’s events and complemented her statement earrings.

Dashing Antonio didn’t let his co-star down on the style stakes in a navy shirt, paired with a dark blue suit for the special occasion.

Dolor y gloria — which translates as Pain & Glory — tells the story of a film director who reflects on the choices he has made as his life comes crashing down.

While she is known to the rest of the world as an actress, at home Penélope is the mother to her two children Luna, five, and Leo, eight.

The Loving Pablo star — who raises her children with her husband Javier Bardem — said being a mother is the thing that makes her the ‘happiest’.

However, the Hollywood beauty confessed motherhood had ‘surprised’ her because it made her completely selfless in the devotion to her offspring.

She told Marie Claire magazine in January: ‘It’s the thing that has made me happiest. But there are a lot of things that have surprised me about it.

‘It’s like a revolution inside you—a very animal-like one. The whole world looks different. You’ll never think of yourself first again, and I think that’s a very good thing. It happens in a second…

‘We’re all superwomen—those of us who have children and those of us who don’t.’
