It’s the start of a new year and Liverpool are top of the Premier League table. The Reds hold a four-point lead over Manchester City but they will not be taking anything for granted as the business end of the season begins.
Back to back defeats to City and then Wolves in the FA Cup third round have served as a reminder that this Liverpool team still has flaws that may need to be addressed before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
Jurgen Klopp has already been active in shifting fringe players like Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne and fans are wondering if the German is simply clearing room in his squad for new arrivals.
But who could the Reds sign this month? We take a look at who bookmakers BetVictor think could arrive at Anfield before the transfer window shuts.
Weston McKennie – 4/1
Chelsea grabbed the headlines last week as they confirmed the capture of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool could follow their lead in raiding the Bundesliga for a young American starlet.
The Reds are 4/1 favourites to move for Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie. The 20-year-old has just eight league starts to his name this season but remains an exciting prospect, with Premier League rivals Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea all 8/1 to complete a deal.
Pascal Gross – 4/1
The signing of Xherdan Shaqiri over the summer has shown Liverpool fans that there is value to be head among the bottom half of the Premier League. Brighton and Hove Albion may sit 13th in the table but in Pascal Gross, they have a potentially dangerous playmaker.
Klopp has shown an ability to maximise this kind of potential and the Reds are once again 4/1 favourites to get a deal done. Merseyside rivals Everton trail behind at 8/1, with a move abroad coming in at 12/1 for Gross.
Thorgan Hazard – 10/1
Eden Hazard has been arguably the best player in the Premier League since his arrival from Lille in 2012 but his brother has yet to reach the same heights. The 25-year-old has scored nine goals and added a further six assists for Borussia Monchengladbach this season and is being linked with a move away.
Borussia Dortmund are the most likely destination for the younger Hazard with Klopp’s former team odds-on favourites 1/2 but Liverpool still have an outside chance as second favourites at 10/1, ahead of 12/1 Manchester United.

Ousmane Dembele – 8/1
It’s no secret that Ousmane Dembele’s Barcelona career has yet to fully take off. Signed from Borussia Dortmund for £135.5m 18 months ago, the Frenchman has not quite lived up to the price tag and has been consistently linked with a move away from Camp Nou.
Somewhat surprisingly, the bookies have Liverpool as the favourites to land the 21-year-old this month, though at 8/1 it is certainly not a sure thing. Arsenal are second behind the Reds at 14/1, while Spurs and Manchester United are 20/1 outsiders.
Nabil Fekir – 5/4
After a transfer saga which lasted the entire summer, Nabil Fekir stayed at Lyon at the beginning of this season. The French playmaker had been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool thought to be his preferred destination.
That remains the case now in January, as Liverpool are the 5/4 favourites to land Fekir before the end of the winter window. Real Madrid and Man City are their nearest rivals, way back at 10/1.
Gary Cahill – 10/1
Dejan Lovren’s hamstring injury against Wolves has stretched Liverpool’s defensive resources to the max, with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez already sidelined for the long-term.
So could the Reds move for out of favour Chelsea defender Gary Cahill? They are 10/1 to sign the 33-year-old, though they lag behind 4/1 Arsenal and odds-on favourites Fulham, who are 1/2 to keep Cahill in London.
Adrien Rabiot – 8/1
During his time at Dortmund and now Liverpool, Klopp has earned a reputation for developing young attacking talent, so it’s no surprise to see the Reds linked with a move for Adrien Rabiot.
The PSG midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has been banished from the first team after refusing a new contract, with Barcelona evens to bring him to Spain. But Liverpool are second in the hunt, coming in at odds of 8/1.
Philippe Coutinho – 6/1
One possibility this January is for one of Liverpool’s prodigal sons to return to Anfield in the form of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian left Anfield for Camp Nou during the winter window last season but has struggled to establish the same level of influence he has on Merseyside.
Coutinho is 6/1 for a return to Liverpool – the same price as a move to PSG – but rivals Manchester United remain the leaders for his signature as the 2/1 favourites to get a deal done.
Timo Werner – 6/1
Liverpool have managed to develop arguably the most fearsome attack in world football without a pure striker as a focal point of the attack. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane drift in and out, causing chaos for defenders, but maybe Klopp is ready to pursue a new style before Liverpool’s rivals can catch up.
The Reds are 6/1 joint favourites alongside Bayern Munich to land RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, with a move to Spain a nearby threat at 8/1.
Aaron Ramsey – 25/1
Arsenal have once again allowed one of their star player’s contract to run down and Liverpool could once again be the beneficiaries after taking Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Anfield last season.
Aaron Ramsey has just six months left on his contract and will be available on a free transfer in the summer but a deal could still be struck for him this month. Surprisingly, Liverpool are 25/1 outsiders for the Welshman. A move to Italy looks the most likely outcome at 4/5, while Everton are surprisingly ahead of the Reds at 14/1.
