Love Island‘s Molly-Mae Hague made a pretty awkward mix-up on tonight’s show (June 12) when she confused two of probably THE most iconic children’s characters of all time – pretty much sending the internet into meltdown mode in the process.
It all went down when the girls were discussing the new arrivals to the villa, Elma Pazar and Maura Higgins.

Naturally, the mention of the name Elma took fan-favourite Amy Hart back to her childhood and had her innocently reminiscing about that big rainbow patchwork elephant we all read about at school.
Amy asked her fellow Islanders if they also remembered the multi-coloured titular character from the book Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, only Molly-Mae confused the elephant for someone entirely different.
It turns out she was thinking a little more red and a lot more furry, replying: “Oh yeah, Elmo.”
Twitter was set ablaze over the awkward Sesame Street mix-up, as fans reacted to the children’s character flub:
However, Molly-Mae probably shouldn’t feel too bad, as others seemed just as confused over the childhood characters.
Some then dragged old Ellie the Elephant into all the confusion (though shouldn’t that be Nellie?):
Just a reminder, guys: Elmo, Ellie, Nellie and Elmer are in fact all completely different characters.
Elsewhere on tonight’s episode of the ITV2 dating show, Amy broke down in tears after growing a little concerned about her blossoming romance with Curtis Pritchard.
Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2, and you can catch up on the show via ITV Hub.
